Who couldn't use an extra boost some mornings? With its amazing health benefits and energizing properties, matcha is a perfect addition to your morning smoothie!
If you're considering kicking your morning cup of coffee, matcha can be a great alternative. On a per serving basis, matcha contains less caffeine than your cup of joe. However, matcha contains the amino acid L-theanine which enables the body to process the caffeine differently. The result is a more sustained period of alertness, and no crash at the end like with coffee and energy drinks.
For our first recipe, simply blend the following together in a blender:
STRAWBERRY BANANA MATCHA SMOOTHIE
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup loose leaf spinach
1/2 teaspoon matcha powder
1/2 banana
For our second smoothie recipe, combine the following ingredients saving the lemon for last. Add the juice from the lemon after blending for 30 seconds and then blend for 30 seconds more:
MATCHA GREEN APPLE SMOOTHIE
1 medium green apple, sliced without core (Granny Smiths are great if you like a more tart flavor)
1 cup loose leaf spinach
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon matcha powder
1 cup ice
Juice from 1/2 half lemon
Feel free to adjust these recipes to your liking by adding more or less matcha or a touch of your favorite sweetener. We recommend using culinary grade matcha in your smoothie, like Jade Bliss Matcha available in our tea house or from our online store. If you prefer lattes over smoothies, add a small scoop of matcha to your favorite plant-based milk. Be sure to sift the matcha powder to avoid lumps, and enjoy!
